About our bamboo bead curtains
Bead curtains have hung in Mediterranean doorways for generations, and for good reason. They let the air through, keep most of the flies out, and bring a bit of relaxed, taverna-style character to a room. Ours are made from individually shaped bamboo pieces, strung by hand and mounted on a solid wooden hanging rail.
Hand-painted, not printed
Each design is hand-painted onto the bamboo using a sponge daub technique, so the colour has a soft, textured depth and no two curtains are quite identical. Pick a bold design — flamingo, tiger, sunflower, tropical sunset or rainbow stripes — or the plain natural bamboo that settles into any room.
A naturally sustainable material
Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on earth — some species put on a foot or more in a single day — and it regrows from the same root system after cutting, with no need to replant. That makes it a genuinely renewable material: quick to harvest, light to ship, and far kinder to the planet than plastic strip curtains that never really break down.
Made by farming families in Vietnam
Our curtains are made by Vietnamese farming families during the quieter months outside the harvest season, working the bamboo at home. The finished strands are then taken to a workshop in Cu Chi, near Ho Chi Minh City, where each design is hand-painted, finished and packed.
Will it fit my door?
Every curtain is 90 cm wide and 200 cm long, which suits a standard UK interior doorway. They hang from two pre-fitted hooks on the rail, on small nails or cup hooks above the frame — no drilling into the frame itself, and about two minutes to put up.
More than a doorway
A bamboo bead curtain works just as well as a room divider, across a doorless opening, over open shelving, or in a conservatory or garden room — where the dense strands double as a natural fly screen through the summer.
