A bold sun-shaped suncatcher with twelve tapered rays radiating out from a white centre, each ray in a different bright resin colour — red, blue, yellow, green, orange, and purple. Set into a hand-shaped soldered metal frame, the rays sit slightly irregularly for a folk-art feel rather than a perfectly symmetrical pattern.

Hung in a sunny window, the rays light up vividly as the sun moves through the sky, with each colour glowing distinctly against the light. The design has a real sense of warmth and energy to it — a sun looking back at the sun, in effect — and reads beautifully from across a room.

An obvious gift for anyone who could do with brightening up a window: housewarmings, retirement, recoveries, or simply for someone who deserves a daily dose of cheerful colour. The sun motif also works particularly well as a Mediterranean or summer-themed piece for kitchens and conservatories.

Good to know

Where should I hang it?

A window that gets direct sunlight for at least part of the day — south or west-facing works best. When sun comes through, the coloured resin glows like stained glass and casts soft pools of colour into the room. In indirect light it still looks lovely, just without the lit-from-behind effect.

How do I hang it?

A small cup hook screwed into the top of the window frame is the neatest option. A suction cup hook works well if you don't want to make holes, though they can lose grip on cold glass in winter. The metal ring slips over either.

Will it spin?

Yes, gently — air movement around a window is usually enough to set it turning slowly, so the colours shift across the room as it moves. It's not designed for outdoor use where stronger wind would tangle the cord.

Can I hang it outside?

We'd keep it indoors. The resin and wire are reasonably hardy, but prolonged UV will eventually fade the colours and weather will dull the soldered seams. A porch, conservatory or covered window is a sensible middle ground.

What's the difference vs the ones on Amazon?

Look closely at the wire work — ours are properly soldered with even seams, not glued. The resin is poured cleanly into each section without bubbles or shrinkage at the edges. Cheap imports tend to use thinner wire that bends out of true, and the colours fade noticeably within a year or two even indoors.
